Storm Summary and Projection:
Hurricane Summary POSTED: September 4, 2015 11:53 a.m. Fred Weakens to a Depression, Watching New Developing Tropical Cyclone Tropical Storm Fred has weakened to a tropical depression as the low-level center of circulation has been completely exposed, due to strong westerly wind shear aloft. Tropical Depression Fred will continue moving to the west-northwest through the through tomorrow night, then make a turn to the north and northeast later this weekend and early next week. Upper-level wind wind shear will lessen later this weekend and so should Fred, but continuing to hold tough and maintain its surface circulation, it will move across an area where waters are warmer. This might allow Fred an opportunity to regain some strength. However, through early next week, Fred or its remnants will stay far from any landmass and will only be a concern for shipping interests. In the event that Fred survives to the latter part of next week, it likely will track near or through the Azores, so there is some potential for rain squalls and gusty winds to impact the Azores by late in the week. In addition to Fred, we are monitoring a developing tropical cyclone several hundred miles southeast of the Cape Verde Islands. Favorable wind shear and warm waters in the path of this system will favor strengthening over the next 24 hours and it could become a depression or tropical storm over the weekend. If it becomes a tropical storm, its name will be Grace. At this point, we expect this feature to track west-northwest and well south of the Cape Verde Islands and will not impact any landmasses.
